The Enigma of Liver Enzymes: Transferases

The advent of serum automated test batteries has been a great aid to clinical medicine in testing for various disease states. The relevance of these batteries to the insurance medical director has become increasingly important as more applicants with a significant medical history of various impairments seek life, disability and health insurance. This is especially true since many insurance companies are lowering the dollar limits for which a serum battery must be obtained. As insurance medical directors, we are often called upon to interpret elevations in these serum test batteries since they may reflect a significant impairment which could have a definite effect upon insurance mortality or morbidity.
